A correctly firing ignition system is the difference between smooth running, decent fuel economy and reliable starting — and a misfiring car that drains the battery, dumps fuel through the exhaust and slowly poisons the catalytic converter. Hyundai petrol engines (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Theta, Nu, Lambda V6, Kappa and the newer Smartstream T-GDI family) use coil-on-plug ignition, with the older naturally aspirated Atos, Tiburon RD and X3 Accent still on distributor-and-leads layouts. When a single coil quits, the cylinder it serves drops out, the ECU registers misfire codes against that cylinder, and fuel economy can fall by 15 to 20 per cent overnight while the catalyst overheats with unburnt fuel.

What sits in this category. We stock ignition coils (coil-on-plug for all modern engines, distributor-fed coils for older Atos, Getz and Tiburon RD), spark plugs in nickel, platinum and iridium grades matched to engine specification, spark plug wires (HT leads) for legacy distributor-fed engines, distributor caps and rotor arms for the X3 Accent and J2 Elantra of the 1990s, knock sensors and crank position sensors that the ignition map relies on, and the smaller coil-pack mounting hardware. Both new aftermarket and used tested units are available.

Hyundai-specific failure patterns

Hyundai-specific failure patterns. The i10 PA and BA camshaft position sensor is one of the most common faults across the lineup — symptoms are a long crank, intermittent stall on start, and a P0340 fault. The Gamma 1.4 and 1.6 (i20 PB and GB, Accent RB, Elantra MD, i30 FD and GD) ignition coil pack is our highest-volume single ignition item, with strong demand on every coil position. Theta II 2.0 and 2.4 coils fail in pairs more often than singly. Nu 2.0 misfires are usually a coil rather than a plug. On the legacy Tiburon RD 2.0 Beta and X3 Accent the distributor cap and rotor arm wear through their contacts and produce a stumbling miss under load.

Which Hyundai models we cover. Ignition parts in regular rotation for the i10, i20, Getz, Accent, Elantra, Tucson, ix35, Santa Fe and Sonata — plus older models including the Atos MX, Tiburon RD, X3 Accent and early Elantra J2. Send us your engine code (G4FC, G4LA, G4KD, G4NA and so on) for an exact match on coils and plugs.
