Hyundai Veloster Spares

The Hyundai Veloster is the asymmetric coupe with one door on the driver side and two on the passenger side — sold in SA across the FS and JS generations. The 1.6 T-GDI engine is the volume powertrain, with the Veloster N (JS) using the 2.0T Theta II. We carry T-GDI engines, DCT 7-speed gearboxes and the unique asymmetric third door assembly.

Hyundai Veloster Spares — What We Stock

Hyundai Veloster spares are available from our Lenasia South yard for both the FS (2011-2017) and JS (2018-2022) generations. The Veloster is an enthusiast-niche model — lower daily volumes than a Getz or i20, but enquiries tend to be for hard-to-find parts: the asymmetric third-door assembly, T-GDI turbos, DCT mechatronic units and cosmetic trim that dealer catalogues have long since dropped. Veloster N owners are also consistent customers for the Theta II 2.0T and the N-specific LSD components. Send your part requirement and we will check donor stock.

The Hyundai Veloster arrived in South Africa in 2011 with a body that nobody else was building — three doors arranged asymmetrically, with two on the kerb side and one on the driver side. That single design quirk gave the FS-generation Veloster a niche following in the local market, sitting somewhere between a sporty hatchback and a coupe without committing fully to either. The JS generation that followed in 2018 sharpened the styling and brought a proper hot-hatch variant with the Veloster N, before Hyundai discontinued the model globally in 2022.

Two engine families do most of the work on the local fleet. The naturally aspirated G4FC 1.6 Gamma was the volume entry trim, while the G4FJ 1.6 T-GDI turbo became the powertrain that buyers actually wanted — punchier mid-range, twin-clutch DCT in many trims, and a much more interesting drive. The Veloster N variants we see in South Africa are uncommon: a 2.0-litre Theta II turbo putting out around 202 kW, paired with adaptive dampers and an electronic limited-slip diff. Genuine N parts can be slow to source through dealer channels, which is where a used-parts yard becomes essential.

At Hyundai Spares SA, the Veloster falls into our enthusiast-niche stock category. We do not see the same volume as Getz or i20, but Veloster owners are typically loyal and tend to hold cars long enough to need second-hand panels, mirrors, the asymmetric third-door assembly itself, T-GDI turbos, DCT mechatronic units and the cosmetic trim that disappeared from local dealer catalogues years ago. If you are running a Veloster in 2026 and need a part that the franchised network has long since stopped supporting, our Lenasia South yard is your best route.

Common Parts We Stock

Common Veloster Issues

1.6 T-GDI Turbo Failure and Carbon Buildup

Symptom: Carbon buildup on intake valves and eventual turbo failure on T-GDI Velosters with neglected oil changes. HPFP high-pressure fuel pump also wears on early FS cars.

Fix: Used T-GDI turbochargers and HPFP units in stock. Intake manifolds and cleaning kits for valve carbon. Far below new-unit dealer price. From R3,500

7-Speed DCT Mechatronic Faults

Symptom: Jerky low-speed shifts and hesitation on DCT Velosters mechatronic unit faults are the most common complaint after the turbo on the T-GDI FS and JS.

Fix: Used DCT complete units are a cost-effective alternative to a full dealer rebuild. Clutch packs also available separately for builds where the housing is sound. From R16,000

Third-Door Mechanism and FS Headlight Housing

Symptom: The asymmetric third-door hinges, latch and door card are Veloster-specific and cannot be sourced from any other Hyundai. FS headlight housings yellow severely in the SA sun.

Fix: We strip donor Velosters for these niche items and keep them in stock rather than ordering from Korea case by case. Veloster N electronic LSD components also stocked. From R2,200

Common Veloster Issues

The 1.6 T-GDI turbo is reliable when serviced strictly to interval, but neglected oil changes show up as carbon build-up on intake valves and, eventually, turbo failure. We see steady demand for replacement turbochargers, intake manifolds and HPFP high-pressure fuel pumps on FS and early JS cars. The 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch) gearbox can develop mechatronic faults that show as jerky low-speed shifts — a used DCT unit is a cost-effective alternative to a full dealer rebuild.

Body-side, the asymmetric third door is the part owners struggle to source — the hinges, latch assembly and door card are Veloster-specific and not shared with any other Hyundai. Headlight housings on FS cars yellow in the SA sun. On the Veloster N, the electronic LSD and adaptive dampers occasionally need attention. We strip donor Velosters as they come through and keep these niche items in stock rather than ordering them in from Korea on a case-by-case basis.
